Empire Industries, Inc.. designs, manufactures and erects structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and plate work from plants located in Edmonton AB, Vancouver BC, Winnipeg MB and Welland ON totalling 110,000 square feet of shop fabricating area.
Structural and miscellaneous steel is supplied for pulp mills, mines, process plants, piperacks, conveyor systems, high and low rise office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals and schools.
Plate steel is processed into bridges, hydraulic gates, stoplogs, precipitators, tanks, hoppers, chutes, breeching and engineered equipment.
Complementing the 13,000 tons per year fabrication plants are painting facilities to wheelabrate or sandblast and apply multi-coat paint system for a variety of highly corrosive environments such as pulp mills and potash mines.
One of the largest boring and milling machines in Western Canada enables Empire to provide a complete service for machined products such as hydraulic gates, guides and stop logs.
In order to provide customers with the highest quality of work, Empire's staff includes professional engineers and quality assurance inspectors, The shop QA program complies with the requirements of CSA Z299.4. This commitment to quality is enhanced and reinforced by active membership in the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC),the Steel Structures Painting Council (SSPC) and Division 1 Certification by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).
With the implementation of shop and field safety programs, Empire has responded to the ever increasing desire of it's customers and employees to provide a safer work environment for everybody. The programs and compliance level are monitored and audited regularly in order to maintain the safety standards that significantly contribute to the quality of work and service provided.
Empire Iron's objective is to provide the level of quality, safety and service demanded by today's projects.Today a shop and field work force of over 300 employees throughout Canada work together with competent and professional office staff to provide customers with products and service that meet today's demanding criteria for safety, quality and schedule. While continuing to provide the traditional fabricated products and service for which we are known, we are enhancing our service by undertaking projects of ever increasing complexity.
HISTORY
Established at Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1958 as an ornamental metal fabricator, Empire Iron Works ltd. has expanded and diversified to provide fabrication and integrated construction services throughout Canada. This growth is the result of recognizing the ever increasing needs of our customers.
Over the years the following facilities and services have been added:
- 2000 Established Buffalo Plate & Fabrication Div. (USA)
- 2000 Established in house drafting office to serve all branches
- 2000 Added six Xsteel 3D structural steel detailing licenses
- 1999 Acquired Hopkins Steel Works Ltd. in Welland, Ontario
- 1998 Added the StruCAD 3D structural steel detailing system
- 1995 Became a member of the Steel Plus Network to enhance delivery of commercial projects
- 1994 AutoCAD LT for Windows and plotter system. Providing our customers the convenience and ability to e-mail drawings
- 1992 Addition of Peddinghouse, computer programmed fully automated beam line in Winnipeg, Manitoba
- 1991 Establishment of Construction Services Division in Edmonton serving Alberta, Northwest Territories and British Columbia
- 1988 Establishment of Construction Services Division in Winnipeg, serving Manitoba, Saskatchewan and N.W Ontario. Addition of horizontal milling machine to machine weldments such as hydraulic gates and stop-logs.

- 1976 Establishment of sister company to provide stainless steel, aluminum and light gauge carbon steel products
